Part I · Chapter 01

Introduction & Your Account

The 3DOptix design and simulation tool runs in your browser. There is nothing to install.

Creating an account and signing in

Sign in with an email address and password, or with Google. The first time you sign in, a short questionnaire asks about you before the design tool opens:

  1. Organization type: Industry, Academia or Individual.
  2. Role: Optical Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer, System Engineer or Researcher.
  3. Primary design work: Component layout, Ray validation, Performance analysis or Opto-mechanical.
  4. Other tools you use: optical design software, mechanical CAD, or both (optional).
  5. Terms acceptance.

Your answers do not limit what you can do in the tool.

Trial and paid plans

New accounts start on a trial. Some features are available only on a paid plan, among them larger CAD uploads, advanced analyses and custom ray colors. When you try one of these on a trial account, the tool shows an upgrade dialog instead. This manual marks such features as Professional-tier. Your current plan and its limits are shown under User Settings (see Account Settings).
