Part II · Section 12A
The Sequential/Zemax (Seq-Zmx) Editor
The Seq-Zmx editor shows an optical system as a table of surfaces in order along the optical axis, with radii, thicknesses and materials, the way sequential lens-design tools do. It works on the same setup as the 3D viewport.
Opening the editor
Open it from the header toolbar or from the Tools menu. The editor has tabs, so several prescriptions can be open at once.
Editing surfaces
Each row is one surface. Editing a value changes that surface in the setup, the same as editing it in the Inspector.
Keeping the scene in step
Changes made in the editor appear in the 3D viewport and the other way round. After a long editing session in the table, look at the viewport to confirm the layout is what you expect.
Ungrouping
If a group was built or edited in the Seq-Zmx editor, Ungroup deletes the editor's data for it. A confirmation dialog warns you first, and there is no undo. Make a copy of the setup before ungrouping if you may need the prescription again.
Other tools
The Coherence Manager, the analyses and the Imaging System work on the setup whether you built it in the viewport or in the editor.
